Områder med højt lufttryk nord og syd for passatvindsbæltet, hvor Hadley-cirkulationens nedsynkning finder sted. Det subtropiske højtryksbælte strækker sig mere eller mindre sammenhængende rundt om Jorden ved ca. 25 grader nordlig og sydlig bredde.
